Pogba Declares: “I’m Not a Cheater”

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has firmly stated that he is “not a cheater,” though he acknowledges his role in the failed doping test that led to his suspension.

Ban Reduced After Court Ruling

Pogba’s original four-year doping ban was shortened to 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport concluded that his ingestion of a banned substance was unintentional. He was initially suspended in February after tests revealed high levels of testosterone, which boosts endurance.

“I Would Never Cheat”

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pogba made his stance clear: “This isn’t who I am. I’m not a cheater. I love my sport, and I’d never cheat. I like to win fairly. I’m a bad loser, but not a cheater.”

Suspension Timeline and Return to Play

Pogba’s reduced ban began on 11 September 2023. Sources close to him told BBC Sport that he can resume training by January and return to competitive matches in March.

Taking Responsibility for the Mistake

“I take some responsibility because I took the supplement,” Pogba admitted. “I didn’t triple-check it, even though it came from a professional. If I must be punished, I accept that—but four years would have been excessive.”

Looking Ahead: Pogba’s Focus on Return

Since rejoining Juventus in July 2022, injuries and the doping scandal have limited Pogba’s time on the pitch. However, with his contract running until 2026, he’s eager to get back to training.

“I just want to be back on the pitch, any pitch,” Pogba expressed. “It’s tough training alone, passing to the wall. My focus is to get fit and be back doing what I love.”
